At Wings, we pride ourselves in teaching children based on their interests and developmental growth through nature-based play. Our lesson plans and daily activities are geared towards the interests of the children, as staff thoughtfully observe children to determine upcoming themes. We focus on social/emotional development and growth by using positive guidance strategies and setting positive examples. By openly playing outside, we are encouraging students to explore their surroundings, ask questions, and find ways to work together to solve problems. Allowing a child to guide their own learning creates a sense of ownership and empowerment for the child.
Not only are they choosing their own paths with a teacher’s guidance, but they are also growing into responsible, inquisitive people who can work together using their imagination.
In support of this socio-emotional growth and with consideration for academic goals such as learning letters and reading, counting, writing, and more, Wings utilizes the Experience Curriculum. This is a NAEYC-aligned whole-child curriculum that utilizes project and experience-based learning activities to support continued growth. This curriculum starts right away in our infant classroom and continues through PreK. We find it helps our teachers think of ways to both support and measure your child’s growth. The entire curriculum is adaptable by our classroom teachers to fit each child, each classroom’s goals and dynamics, and to complement our nature-based priorities.
We believe this curriculum will help develop friendly, confident, engaged, and capable Wings graduates!
